8 Low budget ways you can truly stay fit while you're traveling

Do you worry about gaining unwanted "travel weight" before heading off to enjoy your two week vacay or, summer long backpacking trip?

The first time I went to Europe for 3 months... I returned home 15 pounds heavier.

I didn't want to fear traveling, because, I feared putting on extra weight.

This is how I keep my healthy lifestyle choices on track while I'm away, and most importantly for less money!

10 low budget tips to help you come back from vacay fitter than when you left

Can I get a hell yes!

8 low budget ways to stay fit while traveling

#1 Eat Fresh

If you eat out, try and eat the freshest food possible.

Enjoy local dishes of course! However, try to avoid fried and processed foods. As often as you can.

Minimize sauces too. Ask for your sauce to be put on the side.

Try to be honest with yourself, if you didn’t burn off much energy that day… Pastas, breads and pastries should be off limits!

#2 Count your steps and walk everywhere

I mean any distance within obvious reason (I strive for walking every distance under 5 km)

No matter how cheap local transport might be, if you can walk the distance, you should.

Use the health app on your phone to track your steps. Make it fun, a game for yourself.

Tip: Make a goal to walk 10 km a day, if you stick to this, you won't have to worry much about that croissant from breakfast.

#3 Pack your favourite workout gear

Commit to the outfit, and smash out a killer workout!

It’s gonna get sticky and sweaty (I can promise you that)

If that bothers you, bring a few extra outfits. Don’t bring shoes that are cute, bring shoes you’ll get an amazing outdoor workout in.

Bring outfits that get you excited to break a sweat in.

#4 Outdoor workouts

No gym, no problem!

Don’t try and tell yourself because you don’t have access to a gym or equipment that you can't work out.

Find a nearby park, and utilize a bench. So simple.

You might even be able to enjoy some sightseeing along the way.

#5 No sugary cocktails

Fact… An undeniable truth about losing/gaining weight is, it all comes down to calories in vs. calories out.

Sugary cocktails, means high-calorie drinks. A very easy way to go over your daily calorie intake, fast!

Mojitos or Margs will no sugar is my go-to every time. Refreshing and slimming on your waist line.

#6 Drink plenty of water

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!

Keep your body flushing out unwanted toxins, and waste.

Water is such an underrated component to having a lean figure.

Sometimes over-eating stems from plain old dehydratation.

How to avoid gaining weight when you're traveling

#7 Fasted cardio workouts

Keep in mind, this isn’t going to be everyones cup of tea.. Time and time again it's been scientifically proven, as being an effective way to lose fat.

If you want to keep the weight off, and see results quick.

I strongly suggest implementing a 16-hour, fast 5 days a week. While also completing fasted cardio workouts.

Fasted morning workouts mean your body will be burning fat instead of the calories consumed for earlier that morning. Giving your body a head start in fat burning mode.

#8 Pack a micro resistance band

If you're unfamiliar with what full-body workouts you can do, with just one resistance band...

Hop on Youtube.

There are thousands of free fitness videos on YouTube, you can utilize – all for free and in the comfort of your own home.

Micro bands are lightweight and, take up basically no room in your suitcase, so why wouldn't you bring one!

#9 Gym trial memberships

Many gyms offer the first week free with no obligation to sign up.

This gives you a chance to check out the gym and make sure it meets your needs before you spend any money.

Even better, use the gym for the entire stay of your vacation (for free) and potentially switch to the next gym once your trial is over.

I've totally been a gypsy and done this, no shame. Don't judge me!

#10 Don't over indulge

Be mindful of what you're putting in your body.

Vacation should be about letting the stress melt away! However, don’t neglect your body just because you’re not at home anymore.

Eat heaps of plant-based foods.

It’s fine to have a few cheat meals here and there but, if you’re going to be overeating and having cheat meals the entire time you’re on vacation. Well, let's be real. You're going to gain weight!

How do you like to stay on track with your fitness, while traveling?
