How to Find Score Cheap Flights

I’ll be the first to admit, almost all my new adventures start with a cheap round trip.

Finding cheap flights always seems like a daunting process to undertake when you’re excited about travelling.

You want to find the best possible deal to your dream location, but you’re not sure which site will have the best price, what dates will be cheaper, when you should buy, the list goes on.

There’s no perfect formula when it comes to searching for cheap flights, but there are travel hacks to do it better than most. Here are my top three:

Check Out Other Airports

If the option is available, check out the price difference leaving from or arriving to a different airport.

Sometimes it’s cheaper for you to drive an hour and hop on a flight there or take a bus to your destination once you fly in somewhere nearby. Google Flights is a great tool for this since you can choose up to seven different arrival and departure destinations, comparing the prices of each as you go.

Get Travel Rewards

This is perhaps my favourite tip. Why not be working towards more travel in your everyday life?! Instead of using your regular credit card, sign up for a travel rewards card so that you start earning points instantly, with every coffee purchase and grocery run.

Some cards even offer extra rewards when travel items are purchased and include travel insurance, so paying the annual fee may just pay off.

RBC Avion Rewards is my favourite (if you’re located in Canada)

Here are a few international Cards I recommend…

  • The Platinum Card American Express

  • Capital One® Spark® Miles for Business

Using the Right Sites

Usually the best kept secret is simply knowing which sites to look on. Some of my personal favourites are

  • Google Flights

  • Skyscanner

  • Hopper

  • Scott’s Cheap Flights

  • Matt’s Flights

  • Expedia (when combining hotels with airfare)

Some of these will track a flight for you, search for the lowest price or add you to an email list so that you are notified immediately when flights to your destination go on sale.

So, where are you headed off to next?
